15 – cabosanroque & Studio Animal »Trànsit«

Velodrom

In this collaboration between cabosanroque and Studio Animal, the theme of the transit is literally transferred to the traffic lights. The proposal alters the meaning and linguistic function of the three coloured lights, which convey exclusive messages, to transform traffic lights into lamps. Once the prohibition of using two colours simultaneously is destroyed, an infiinite gradient palette is generated, a gradual transition from red to green. At the same time, the functioning of the apparatus and the system is stressed to the maximum, generating remnant images with aggressive backlighting that make coloured lights appear that do not correspond to any of the three lamps. “Trànsit” is an immersive experience that invites the spectator to immerse himself in a dialogue between movement and stillness, between flow and pause.

cabosanroque are Laia Torrents Carulla, Senior Industrial Engineer from Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering, and Roger Aixut Sampietro, an Architect licensed by Barcelona School of Architecture. In their work, they seek to explore tensions between disciplines such as music, theatre, visual arts, and sound, aiming to open up margins and spaces in conflict. Drawing on their academic backgrounds, they use technology as a tool for ongoing research, rather than as an aesthetic in itself. Their interventions challenge traditional exhibition spaces and formats, encouraging viewers to reconsider their experience within physical, temporal, and conceptual contexts. Their works have been exhibited internationally in spaces such as the Centre Pompidou, Cité de l’Architecture in Paris, Sonar Festival, Centre for Contemporary Arts of Glasgow or the National Sound Archive of Mexico.

Studio Animal is a design practice based in Madrid and Barcelona specializing in interior design projects and ephemeral architecture, directed by Javier Jiménez Iniesta. Studio Animal deals with the development of proposals related to ultra-contemporary thinking and its relationship to the environment in which we live in, and has been honored with various national and international prizes such as Fad Awards or Frame Awards. It has also been selected for the last two Spanish Biennials of Architecture and Urbanism, as well as the CSCAE Architecture Awards, among others.
